News and memories April 2007
From Bergère - Légere to Otis
Bergère – Légère design: Patricia Urquiola Seating system designed by Patricia Urquiola. The initial design of the Bergère seat grew out of the specific demand of business to present a renewed form of this precise type of seating, which in the memory of furnishings represents the "armchair par excellence." The "Bergère" with pouf is inspired by the forms of tradition: it is a padded armchair with a varnished metal base and upholstered in removable fabric. The seat has two inclined settings: conversation position and repose position. The Bergère mold has given rise to two other two products: the "Légère" low armchair, with a simplified leg and a single position for the back, suited to ether the home or the contract sector, and a sofa, the "Sofa Berger" in a high-backed version and the low-backed "Sofa Léger", both with lower back support cushion and metal feet. The range of upholstery for the whole system offers floral weaves, circular quilted material, a version in undecorated material and leather. The products are fully fitted with zips for removable upholstery, a tribute to the teaching of Vico Magistretti, with whom Patricia worked for many years. Spring Low design: Damian Williamson This wooden armchair elaborates on the project of the Spring chair presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2006. The same features of flexibility and lightness have been skillfully embodied in the new project. The projecting armrest enables the back to keep the elasticity that was already the stylistic hallmark of the chair: "Spring as in springy." The chair comes in two versions: in wood or with the seat in brown or black leather. The upholstery, visually very thin, contains a surprise, offering an experience of exceptional comfort and softness when you sit on it. It is actually partly concealed in the structure of the frame. Spring HD design: Damian Williamson Spring "Heavy Duty", a revisited version of the Spring chair devised specially for the contract sector. Tetris design: Nendo Tetris like the well-known videogame, an interplay of joints and constructions of different geometries that rapidly cancel each other out on the screen. The composition of the squares and the alternation of voids and solids animate this lounge table in two colored versions, black or white. The projecting upper shelves are suspended towards the center. The empty spaces are conceived as racks for magazines or bottles. Tools + design: Lorenz*Kaz The Tools table designed by Studio Cerri & Associati is convertible. The worktop can be extended by a small supporting side panel, while a series of accessories and shelves in aluminum, designed by the young German designer Lorenz*Kaz, animate it and make it a highly versatile and flexible workstation. Otis design: Lorenz*Kaz The Otis table, round, 100 cm in diameter and a with laminate top, rests on a metal tripod base. Inspired by the old industrial stools, the special folding of the sheet metal ensures good stability even though the base rests on only three legs. Otis completes the De Padova collection with a table of compact dimensions. It is perfect for small dining areas or cafeterias.
