De Padova presents the new items for Salone del Mobile 2009 april 2009 De Padova presents the new items for Salone del Mobile 2009
This year, as in 2008, Valeria and Luca De Padova present new types of products and new models, also working with new designers in a process of evolution of the collection è De Padova. A collection that remains faithful, nevertheless, to its character and values: simplicity, elegance and consistency of composition. These traits can also be seen in the displays in the showroom, created by Ferruccio Laviani.
ATALANTE design: Jasper Morrison
This is a program of upholstered components with linear and corner modules of different sizes. The focus is on the proportions of the individual elements and the harmony of the whole, as well as the comfort of the seating. For the presentation, coverings from the De Padova tradition have been selected: delicate colors and designs, combinations of complementary tones. The assembly of the back is very particular, creating a characteristic, exclusive image. The modules permit infinite compositions, suitable for any space, both in terms of sizing and of aesthetic character. It is very easy to break down one composition and make another, just as it is simple to remove the covers from the modules for washing or replacement.
Atalante is a project by Jasper Morrison, which has found an ideal situation at De Padova to express its character: pure self-sufficient lines, a timeless image, easy insertion in the environment. The minimalist, composed nature of the designer and the product forms a contrast with the wealth of possible solutions and the ease of use, also for convivial contexts and situations.
"This elemental sofa system is designed for comfort, both visual and physical, and a homely atmosphere where the sofa doesn’t try to tell everything else in the room how to behave! The strict grid of the usual sofa system has been broken with the option of two lengths, which can be combined, adapted and composed to fit every space, and there’s a table which can be integrated into the system as a corner unit or in the length of a linear arrangement of elements. I have tried to stay true to the De Padova style and aesthetic, updating the spirit while acknowledging the past." Jasper Morrison
Atalante is the name of the river barge that forms the set for the famous film “L’Atalante” by Jean Vigo, which made its debut in 1934 and is now considered a masterpiece.
The creator of this project: Jasper Morrison Jasper Morrison was born in London in 1959, studied design at the Kingston Polytechnic Design School and the Royal College of Art in London, a spent a year at the HdK in Berlin. In 1986 he opened a studio in London, and in 2001 he was appointed Royal Designer for Industry. Since 2003 the studio has also had an office in Paris.
The Framura program design: Aksu/Suardi - Silvia Suardi and Sezgin Aksu
A collection of hybrid furnishings for both outdoor and indoor with a fresh, nonchalant, very spirited character (also ironic, at times), for moments of relaxation and informal socializing. The principal item in the collection is Nido, a lounge seat for multiple users composed of a “shell” that rests on a support structure. The “shell” can turn and be angled as desired. When not in use it can be separated from its structure and hung on the wall, to wait for next spring. Nido is made with metal tubing and woven colored polyester ribbons. It can contain cushions with different forms, colors and sizes. The collection also includes: a sun cot with the characteristic spoked wheels, a small rocking chair for relaxing in the shade of an olive tree, and a chaise longue for naps, with one’s feet resting on a hassock. Framura is a small town in Liguria, perched on a hill, reached by way of a long path in age-old forests, with a spectacular view of the gulf of Cinque Terre. In Framura one senses the slow flow of an archaic way of living, composed of work in the fields and Mediterranean aromas, in an uncontaminated, secret environment where Silvia Suardi has restored an old house with antique materials patiently sought and procured from craftsmen and merchants, and utilized with meticulous care. The creators of this project: Aksu/Suardi Sezgin Aksu (Turkey), designer, studied in Germany (Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart), with Richard Sapper and Ingo Maurer, and in France. Silvia Suardi (Italy), architect, took a degree at the Milan Polytechnic, and studied in Spain. They worked for about ten years with the studio of the architect Michele De Lucchi, and since 2001 they have worked together. In their studio in Milan they focus on interior design (private homes and public spaces), displays and exhibits, product design and graphics. The diversity of their cultural origins and training becomes a strong point for wide-ranging projects that touch on all the aspects of design, from architectural spaces to communication.
